Brian Stacey Retirement from the SCM Group
SCM Group UK's Classical Machinery Product Manager, Brian Stacey, is retiring at the end of February upon reaching the age of 65, having spent all of his working life in the manufacturing and selling of woodworking machinery.
Born in the North East of England, Brian started as an Apprentice Fitter and Turner at Bursgreen Durham in 1960 and also attended night school for his qualifications. Obtaining his Apprenticeship Papers, Brian then became a Fitter on Bursgreen's Machine Test Bed before being promoted to Apprentice Training Officer and then Spare Parts Manager.
In the recession of 1982, Brian was made redundant and then moved South and worked for AL Daltons in Nottingham, selling new and second-hand machines and organising spare parts sales. He admits he learned a lot from Nigel Dalton on how to close a sale and working for a Distributor and selling Wadkin machinery as a Main Dealer.
Brian joined SCM, again based in Nottingham, in 1996, as UK Sales Manager (Classical Machines), to work alongside SCM's network of Distributors in the UK and Ireland, promoting Classical Machines from SCM's A1, Mini Max and Tecnomax ranges, plus lower end Planer Moulders, Wide Belt Sanders and Panel Machinery.
Brian, who lives near Ilkeston, comments "I have really enjoyed working for 3 companies in the woodworking machinery industry and I have met several interesting people, especially when attending Exhibitions at home and abroad and at SCM In-Houses, but now it is time to put my feet up. I will now rev-up my T124 Copy Lathe and produce some items to sell at local Craft Fairs and also continue swimming and caravanning."
