Wood Industry Education & Training

As you may have read in the press much of the wood industry supply chain has recently agreed to work together as a group with regard to training within the industry. This has led to the development of a strategic partnership with Pro Skills who will form a specific Wood Industry group within their organisation. WMSA have joined the new group and will take a proactive role in determining the future strategy for wood industry qualifications

Pro Skills is the government supported Sector Skills Council responsible for the Process and Manufacturing Industries which currently include Construction and Furniture sectors.  Sector Skills Councils are employer led bodies that shape the education and training provision for the UK on a sector by sector basis.

WMSA aims to be on the ground floor of this development and has the opportunity of proposing three employer members of the WMSA to sit on the new Proskills Wood Industry Board which will determine strategy and implementation of training within the Wood Industry and also provide a centralised lobbying link on government policy.

Like to Get Involved ?

  1. The new grouping will set up an industry board and employers are needed to sit on that board, normally meeting 4 times a year.  If you are interested please drop Geoff a line geoff.isenman@wmsa.org.uk - or have a chat with him for more information (direct line 0778 696 3055).

  2. We'd be glad to hear from any member able to tell the new grouping about training initiatives within their own company and where any shortfall might occur.

As your trade association we'll be monitoring the possibilities of this grouping from a position of being involved. This allows us to watch for any opportunities for WMSA members - so please do keep us informed with your opinions and requests.
