WMSA Technical service - more than just educating HSE

WMSA with an eye on your interests

Most members will be aware of the energetic new direction of our Technical service powered by Geoff Isenman.  With a lifetime of experience and knowledge at the ‘sharp end' Geoff has brought a new commercial face to all technical aspects of the association.

In particular we've forged a new relationship with HSE with the unashamed intention of using legislation to maximise opportunities for members.  Of course we want a safe industry first and foremost but we also want a profitable one.  Our joint projects with HSE on LEV dust extraction have created just such opportunities for our members in that sector and we are now looking for similar advantages for members in other areas of machinery and equipment supply.

In re-vamping the function Geoff has had a very busy year - he'd still be glad to hear from you on geoff.isenman@wmsa.org.uk if you have your own thoughts or ideas to discuss.  It's worth regularly checking the WMSA technical page on the web site for latest news www.wmsa.org.uk.

Finally for now, we all know there is profit in training.  Read about WMSA gaining influence in training developments.

We can't just leave training to the trainers

Education and training has a huge potential influence on the machinery market and members of the WMSA are best placed to ensure that wood industry education and training recognises the advantages of modern machinery methods and its technical advances.

The WMSA has joined the new TTF led wood industry education and training initiative, which will be launched in January 2010 via Proskills, a government sponsored and funded Sector Skills Council.  One of the first tasks of the new Proskills wood industry Board will be to formulate a new education and training strategy for the industry.  WMSA members will be represented on this board to ensure that the new strategy recognises the advantages of modern machinery and its place in future training.  If you are interested in knowing more about this initiative and perhaps taking part please contact geoff.isenman@wmsa.org.uk.
